My Favorite Character in Magic School Bus – Miss Frizzle
By:Nicole Lin
I read several books during the winter vacation, and my favorite character is Miss Frizzle. She is a strange, interesting, but unique science teacher in a primary school. She never teaches her students in the classroom, she always takes them for lots of field trips inthe Magic School Bus.
I like her because Miss Frizzle likes to surprise her students. She wears different dresses every day, that means she will take her students on different adventure. When they go back to school, they will do a Friz Quiz or show others their souvenirs.
She is a very crazy lady, not only took the students to visit the penguins in the South Pole, but also returned to Jurassic through the time machine, and they saw many different dinosaurs, such asPlateosaurus, Coelophysis, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, T-rex, Allosaurus andetc..These trips are very exciting and memorable, they are not only soattractive to me, but also informative. So I like it very much.
In addition, she is the leader of the magic school bus, the weirdest teacher in the school. She doesn’t wear beautiful andfashionable dresses and high-heel shoes like any other teacher. She alwayswears a pair of high-heel shoes with a frog on each side. That’s really amazing!
I think if she is my teacher, it will bereally wonderful. Because I can learn a lot about science, the most important is that I go out for some adventure, I also can learn that these tiny beings can have huge effects.
So, you may follow the cleverest and strangest teacher Frizzle to drive the most amazing school bus, enjoy the most excited and humorous class, to learn the miracle science knowledge. I always have a lot of strange questions in my mind, I would like to raise them just like Miss Frizzle’s students, however, there is no curly hair teacher, no magic school bus. But I have the set of the most popular books. When you open these books, most of these strange questions can be found in the well-known books. That’s the reason that I recommend all of you to have and read them.
Great work! Well done, Miss Frizzle sounds like a very fun teacher!
Here are some tips for next time:
There are only three basic tenses in the English language: the past, the present and the future:
- The past tense is used for anything that happened before this moment in time.
- The present tense is used for anything that happens right now or for general statements.
- The future tense is used for anything that will happen at some point later on.
There are three main ‘simple tenses’, Present Simple, Past Simple and Future Simple.
1. Present Simple is used for…
To describe things that are permanent or unchanging.
To describe how often something happens.
To talk about scheduled events.
To use this tense, add an -s to the end of the verb when ‘he’ or ‘she’ is doing the action (he speaks, she eats etc). Use the unchanged verb when anyone else is doing it (we speak, I eat).
We use this tense when we introduce ourselves and or talk about our hobbies, likes and dislikes and to ask simple questions. Example: ‘Hi, I am Neil, I am from England and I like to play football.’ Or you could ask ‘What is your name?’ or ‘When is the next game?’
2. Past Simple is used for…
To describe an action that has already happened or is finished.
To describe an action that is no longer true.
The past simple is used in a very similar way to the present simple. Regular verbs are used with –ed, example: worked, played unless they are irregular, for example, took, spoke etc. Students of English need to learn these irregular verbs one by one as they learn the language. There are plenty of free irregular verb lists or charts online to help English students learn these. We mainly use this tense to describe what we have done, or to ask if something is done, for example: ‘I worked yesterday.’ Or ‘Have you done your homework?’
3. Future Simple is used for…
To talk about future plans.
To talk about what you will do sometime in the future.
To use this tense we simply add ‘will’ or ‘be going to’ (‘be’ is the ‘verb to be’). Do you know when and which one to use correctly, to be honest you shouldn’t worry about that too much as they basically mean the same with only a slight difference, ‘I will call you later.’ means the same as ‘I’m going to call you later’. (But for the ones who want to know the correct one to use: We use ‘be going to’: when there are definite signs that something is going to happen (we are sure, we feel it must happen). We use ‘will’: when we think or believe something to be true in the future.)
There are also three ‘Continuous’ tenses in English, these are ‘Present Continuous’, ‘Past Continuous’ and ‘Future Continuous’. Continuous tenses use the ‘ing’ form of the verb, working, hiking, reading etc. All of these tenses are used for talking about something that continues and was or will continue.
1. Present Continuous is used for…
Talking about something ongoing that’s happening now or in the near future. Example: ‘You are reading this article now and you are meeting a friend later.’
2. Past Continuous is used…
To describe a continuous action that got interrupted in the past. Example: ‘I was talking on the phone when you rang the doorbell.’
3. Future Continuous is used…
To talk about things that might be interrupted in the future.
To say what will be happening at a specific time in the future.
You simply add –ing onto the verb after ‘will’ or ‘be going to’. Examples: ‘I will be waiting for you at the train station.’ or ‘I will be having dinner at six.’
Take a look at what was corrected for you, and try to focus on learning tenses this week .
Keep it up!
